Issue 7 follows the themes of Leda, Ahalya & Rindr.  We also want to give a trigger warning for this issue, our contributors have dealt very honestly with reclaiming power after abuse as well as #MeToo stories.

Issue 6 - LGBTQA+ Special

5/2/2019

Dear Readers,

Cauldron Anthology is so proud to offer to you all Issue 6 - LGBTQA+ “Sappho, Inari Okami, & Ardhanarishvara”. We started curating this issue in July during Pride Month because we wanted to do a special issue merging mythology with current day issues, and I’m so pleased with how this issue turned out. We have love poems, we have the roar of pride, we have tales of becoming who you knew you were always meant to be, and so much more.

I sincerely hope that you all enjoy this issue as much as we enjoyed putting it together. I would like to thank each and every one of our contributors; your work has been such a joy to read. I would like to thank all of our readers for the unwavering support you have given to Cauldron Anthology.  And of course I would like to thank the entirety of my staff for their dedicated work.

I hope this issue inspires you all!

LAMENT (II.) By L.C. Woodbury

i. when you hold her,
you are holding
the strongest fragile thing
the seas have ever
tried and failed
to drown.
this is not
a love
for those
who do not know
what it means
to suffer.

ii. when you are almost
too late
to save her,
you will want
to tell her
how the sea
whispers her name
back to you
the same way a god
repeats
a sinner’s prayers
for salvation.

iii. when you see her weep
for the first time,
you will remember
why your sisters told you
to drown her
while you
still could.
you will understand
why the fates laugh
at the folly
of lovers.

HOW TO LOVE A MORTAL

Lament (I) By L.C. Woodbury

i. when you kiss her,
you are kissing lips
that sing grief
to the sea
like a child
echoing back
a mother’s lullaby.
this is not a kiss
for those
who do not know
what it means
to lose.

ii. when her sisters
rise up
from beneath the waves
to sing your name
and beckon you
with shimmering bony fingers,
there is always
the chance
she will not come
to save you
from those snapping
shark-like
jaws.

iii. when you see her weep
for the first time,
you will remember
why they whispered
to stay away
from sirens.
you will understand
why love
is an instrument
of war.

WITH SO MUCH TO LOSE.)

Froth By Zoe Maynard

5/8/2017

        and the waters
flowed around his
beard

unshaven and
        unpredictable

he caught my eye,
though, he was my
seducing bait

the tangles of my
hair started to unravel

naked and
            exposed

the froth of the waves
spat around the cracks
of my toes

his footprints deepened
in the sand, and imprinted
onto my bosomed chest

devouring my
       inhibitions

I wanted to taste the
joys and wonders of
temptation

the salt spread across
my tongue, suckling to
my taste buds

fears and
             desires

my song had rescued
his lonesome and ageing
heart

the chorus revitalised his
yearning for a climaxing
passion

he kissed my impulses in
sync to the rhythms that
played.
